Why?
Secondhand items carry snapshots of time and carry a history. Instead of throwing them out, upcycling gives them a chance to live on by becoming something new for someone new.
However, the serious reason is because upcycling these fabrics is incredibly important.
While we currently try to recycle everything we can as to not kill our planet faster...
the disgusting truth is that textiles are basically impossible to recycle.
In fact, 92 million TONS of fabric are thrown away every year, leaving its heavily-weighted footprint on many aspects of our earth, as well as the obscene treatment of the people who create and assemble these materials.
92 MILLION TONS of fabric each YEAR going into landfills. Think about that.
I get my materials from thrift stores, garage sales, donations, anywhere. Every item I make is literally one of a kind or part of a very limited number of similar items, depending on how much of a particular fabric I have at that moment. I use dye sublimation to print images to fabric myself, which allows me to make extremely customized items.
I print the fabric, I sew the piece.
All fabric has been washed and disinfected in a smoke-free and pet-free environment.
Yes, I can make custom items with your own fabrics and/or images. Leave me a message.
New inventory is always uploaded with notifications on Instagram and email.
Who?
I've been thrifting and upcycling clothes and furniture for decades. And I've been art-ing, sewing, and MacGyver-ing everything since I was a kid.
I went to college for graphic design and media arts, (and again for bodywork), but nothing has ever been as satisfying as making one thing from another thing. Having grown up in the hardcore punk and skate scene in the 80s, I continue to have a fondness for fast music, the bizarre and unusual, skulls, and plaid.
TLDR: I make new stuff from old stuff because we're killing our planet by throwing away fabric since it can't be recycled. #nolandfill
